Ahead of the World Sight Day (8th October) the John Keells Foundation (JKF) together with Ceylon Cold Stores (CCS) and Health Ministry distributed 100 pairs of spectacles to school children in the Colombo District, who have already been pre-screened and diagnosed with refractive error. The event was held on 28th September 2015 at the Family Health Bureau.
Childhood Blindness is identified as a priority disease area in the Sri Lanka National Eye Care Plan and it has been identified that, refractive error is one of the main causes of visual impairment in children. JKF, the CSR arm of the John Keells Group has joined hands with the Ministry of Health, to roll out a programme of screening and providing spectacles to school children from financially disadvantaged backgrounds.
